Corrections

If you know better — a name spelled wrongly, a birthplace, a date, who is sitting beside the interviewee, what a song is called, the Yiddish name of a town — please tell the project. Names and dates on this site are the archive's catalogue's; they were written down in the field and have not all been checked, and the people who know them best are often the families.

Write to aheym.archives@gmail.com and give the address of the page (or the tape number and time) and what should change. Corrections are kept in the project's tables and appear on the site at the next rebuild; where a correction differs from the catalogue, the site shows the corrected form and notes that it was corrected.

Some of what the site shows was inferred rather than found in the catalogue: the division of a shared tape into conversations, the town a birth place refers to, the official name of a place in the later recordings. Such items carry a small mark — proposed, guessed — to confirm, uncertain — with a link that opens an e-mail already addressed and written; a word suffices. The open questions page gathers all of them in one place, in the order of how much they matter.

If a recording concerns you or your family and you would like to add to it — photographs, a family tree, the later history of the people in it — the project would be glad to hear from you. If you would like a recording withdrawn from the public copies, write to the same address.
