Burg talks the official celebration with the mayor of Chernivtsi of Burg’s 95th birthday the day before. He then talks about contemporary Jewish life and recalls a phone conversation with another well-known Yiddish writer, Itche Goldberg. The conversation is briefly interrupted by a phone call Burg conducts in German.
From the machine transcript
Burg speaks of his health and the official visit the previous day by the governor, the mayor and others, which tired him. Kerler and Lemster talk with him about Yiddish writers and other contacts: an Austrian writer, Kerler's book of poems, Moyshe Leyb (?), Felix Mitterer (?) and the Vienna conference, and Kleiman (?) as the one person who reads to him. They discuss the death at 103 of an old writer, a phone call to Itche Goldberg in New York, and Burg's illness and the cost of medicine and doctors. A phone call in German interrupts, and Burg says he cannot give a long interview.
Adds the visit by officials, the Vienna conference plans and Burg's health and costs, and Lemster's questions about the community.
